The Colleyville Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the launch of our Nonprofit Initiative in partnership with our 501 (c) 3 member organizations. Throughout the year, we will partner with nonprofit chamber members in various ways to communicate their missions and provide engagement opportunities to the business community. The City Slickers 2016 nonprofit partners are North Texas SNAP and 6 Stones.
Serving those with intellectual disabilities.
Over 15 years ago, a group of parents in Northeast Tarrant County were looking for growth opportunities for their teenagers with intellectual disabilities as they graduated from high school and approached adulthood.
By all appearances, the social service system was fragmented, at best. This group of parents, with no experience in developing or managing a nonprofit, founded the North Texas Special Needs Assistance Partners (SNAP) organization. This 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization serves people in our local area who are 17 years old and older, living with intellectual disabilities.
North Texas SNAP has expanded and currently serves approximately 300 intellectually disabled adults and their families throughout North Texas. Its membership ranges in intellectual and developmental disabilities and is comprised of the intellectually disabled member, their families, business professionals and community members.
Like their peers who don’t have intellectual disabilities, North Texas SNAP members have the same hopes and dreams; they want to have jobs, friends, relationships, and to feel they’re a part of their community. And like anyone, they simply want to be treated with respect.
North Texas SNAP helps these individuals achieve their goals. Its vision is to have a community where people with intellectual disabilities and their families have a network that supports independence, choice and personal success for generations to come.
